mpressive plane really. Would make a great striker if modified with a single seat cockpit with AESA radar.

AESA radar on a jet trainer... come on m8. lol1

Even using it as a ground attack is imprudent given Su-25 which makes a far better one. It might work for countries that have no real airforce.

hey, don't be knocking on my dream. These aircrafts are apparently very smart (and also has potential to become ucav's ( hard to do with phone, so I will post that pic stating yak-130 evolution chart once I am at home). It has potential to be a strike aircraft. So radar would be needed. But anyway, the plane is awesome, and let me keep to my dreams Wink

The best jets to put an AESA in are big fighters like Flankers. The more T/R modules and power you can run through it, the bigger and better the radar. A UCAV would be more dedicated to the task, as in lacking a cockpit. Even the MiG-35 AESA has rather limited range, once we stick it in the Su-35BM, we will have a radar that is competitive with USAF in range and capability. The technology is already there.

My last post in derailing this thread

In development of radar, the current PESA radar has a detection range greater then that of western based AESA radar. And it has multichannel frequencies at that for the basics of electronic countermeasure (or defense in electronic warfare). Future projects are long wave radars for Russian jets, in order to combat stealth and stealth UCAV's. Which is a good idea to turn the Yak-130 into, a UCAV hunter.

What does a scaled-down AFAR radar have to do with Yak-130? Yak-130 has far less applicable power and less nose space. It's detection range would be miniscule compared to anything bigger.

Well, it isn't really accusations towards YAK-130 in general, but that Russia does have the technology needed for advanced radar (Dunno if it was you or someone else who made mention). Also, in order to get YAK-130 to use a lot of the equipment, it needs to go through an evolution.

But like you said, it is better off becoming an unmanned striker aircraft. And I am hearing that Irkut is working with Yakovlev in developing a prototype at the moment. But that is just rumor so far.

Victor, in that second photo, is that a land launched anti-ship missile? Or is it something else? Cause I do not recognize those launch tubes.

I do believe it was you who stated radars.

Did I say that? I said a UCAV would be alot smaller than a manned aerocraft. You have heard rumours about Yak-130 becoming a UCAV at Irkut? I read an article on that a few years ago, but then I read an article about MiG doing the same thing with the same specs. At least the MiG's Skat has a mockup. Irkut has nothing.

I misread your comment from above the last.

Anyway, Yeah, I understand that the MIG SKAT had its mockup, but where is the prototype? How old is that picture?

Like in the photo I placed, it makes mention of the YAK-130 evolution, and I did state about radars but you said it was impossible or stupid to say the least. But with modifications (like the evolution chart) then it is not. That is what I am saying.

Adding radar and other needed gadgets would not make it a trainer, now would it?

Edit: ANYWAY..... this is photos thread Smile Lets post more of these great pics.

So someone makes a graphic about Yak-130 and all of a sudden it is dogma? If it was from Irkut I might take some stock in it, but it is in english so not from Irkut. Yak-130 is too small to be effective at most of those things. There is such a thing as expandability in a plane and Yak-130 is too small to expand much of anywhere. You can mix and match various things on it, but you can place all of those capabilities on a bigger airframe and do it better.

don't get me wrong. I am not saying your wrong (you are right) I am just saying there could be other uses for the aircraft. Also, as for the picture, I have seen a pic that was in Russian of it first on rian a while back. But anyway, I understand what you are saying and respect it. So I am in no means saying you are wrong, all I am saying is that I think there are more capabilites to someething then wha it currently is.
