Interesting I thought the Russian Marines had more modern gear.

They are better know as fierce fighters than as state of the art equipped ones... but that will change too.

I would expect the Russian Naval Infantry to be armed with the warfare developed on the BMD-4M platform.

In fact even it is possible a merge between the Airborne and the "Shipborne Troops" (Naval Infantry).

In fact the BMD-4M, BTR-MD, Typhoon-K (6x6 Kamaz 63968) and the Typhoon-U (6x6 Ural 63096) are emerging like the basis of the future light armoured vehicles, in the refered to the infantry vehicles. These are the main vehicles that are emerging on the new light platforms for the Russian Armed Forces (BMD-4M and Typhoon). There is a strong effort finding other light solutions, but nothing better is emerging. Also, it will be a bigger development for vehicles of other roles based on the BMD-4M and the Typhoon 6x6 platforms. As example, we begin to see self propelled artillery pieces on the BMD-4M platform.

I tend to think that this basis will be adopted by the Naval Infantry, the Airborne Troops and the special military forces that need vehicles smaller than the Kurganets and the Boomerang.

These are the main vehicles that are emerging on the new light platforms for the Russian Armed Forces (BMD-4M and Typhoon). We also begin to see self propelled artillery pieces on the BMD-4M platform, and it will be a bigger development.

It is the right time to stop the procurement of the MT-LB and the BTR-80, including their most modern variants (plus the 2S23 and the SA-13). I do not expect to see them in the next armament program. I expect to see the vehicles based on the BMD-4M and the Typhoon 6x6 platforms.

Currently we have Project 1400M in the Northern Fleet and Project 1204 in the Caspian flotilla, the 1204 being better armed and more what you're looking for.

In WW2 we have the "Riverine Tanks" Project 1124/5 and S-40.

Well the zhuk class and p4 class boats of postwar soviet era also fulfill this role right ?
Did the Soviets still have komar class boats till the end of the cold war?
