MAKASSAR (Indonesia), September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will deliver two of its contracted Su fighter jets to Indonesia on Thursday, which is two days later comparing to the previously announced date, a source close to negotiations said.

Russia's An-124 transport plane was to deliver two Su-27SKM planes to the air base in the city of Makassar in Indonesia's South Sulawesi province on Tuesday.

The source said that the delivery was postponed due to technical reasons but Russia would meet the earlier announced deadline and the last contracted Su-27SKM plane will be delivered to the same base on September 16.

Under a $300 million contract, signed in 2007, Russia is to complete the delivery of three Su-30MK2 and three Su-27SKM fighters to Jakarta by the end of 2010 in addition to two Su-27SK and two Su-30MK fighters purchased in 2003.

On the whole, Russia sends the planes to Indonesia earlier than scheduled following a request by the Indonesian military authorities, who would like the aircraft to take part in a military parade dedicated to Armed Forces Day on October 5.

Indonesia earlier said it needed at least one squadron equipped with 16 Sukhoi fighters to replace part of the outdated fleet of U.S. F-16 fighters.

Russia signs $54-mln arms contract with Indonesia

JAKARTA, November 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia started the first day at an arms show in Jakarta with a contract on the delivery of munitions for Sukhoi-family fighters to Indonesia, worth $54 million, a senior defense official said on Wednesday.

The Indo Defense 2010 Expo & Forum opened on November 10 in Jakarta to host over 400 exhibitors from 38 countries until November 13. Nine Russian defense companies are exhibiting various types of sophisticated weaponry at the biennial arms fair.

"Russia's [arms exporter] Rosoboronexport signed a contract on the delivery of munitions for Su-family fighters in service with the Indonesian armed forces," said Mikhail Pukhov, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.

Russia recently completed a $300-million contract signed in 2007 on the delivery of three Su-30MK2 and three Su-27SKM fighters to Jakarta in addition to two Su-27SK and two Su-30MK fighters purchased in 2003.

Jakarta became one of Russia's main arms buyers in 1999 when the United States tightened an embargo on arms sales to the country over alleged human rights violations.

Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said in October that his country would continue buying arms from Russia in the future.

Indonesian Navy successfully tests Russian anti-ship missile

The Indonesian Navy has successfully tested a Russian-made anti-ship missile for the first time, the Antara national news agency reported on Thursday.

The Yakhont anti-ship missile was launched on Wednesday from the Van Speijk class frigate, Oswald Siahaan, during naval exercises in the Indian Ocean. Russian observers oversaw the drills, which involved 12 ships and over 1,000 personnel.

It took six minutes for the missile to cover 250 kilometers and destroy a designated target.

"The target ship was hit [by the missile] and sank," Navy spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul said. "We bought these missiles a long time ago, and have finally tested them."

Indonesia bought an undisclosed number of Russian SS-N-26 Yakhont supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles for $1.2-million apiece in 2007 to replace Harpoon missiles on its frigates.

The missile has a maximum range of 300 kilometers when cruising at high altitude. It flies at low level during the terminal phase, and between 5 and 15 meters in altitude.

500 of them would cost just 600M but give a credible advantage over its neighbours.

According to Wiki Harpoon Block 2 missiles cost $1.2 million.

very good i think.. Yakhont cost U$ 1,2 millions each .

while warships it's intended to sink may cost some 400-500 millions .. expending 20 would still a good and efficient return for kills i think .

Actually expending a hundred would be ok too...that would be 120 million while it would be destroying 400-500 million, sometimes more, worth of a ship! Damn...didn't know it was so cheap!

Depends on what size ship we are talking about.

Argentine Exocets that are much smaller and lighter managed to sink quite a few British ships in the Falklands campaign and they are believed to have not even exploded.

I suspect if a Yakhont had hit such vessels and its warhead explodes as designed that many ships would have trouble staying afloat let along continuing with what they were doing.

It doesn't have to, that is the beauty of it! One costs 1,2 million, if you fire 10 of them on a medium ship, that costs 100 million, they will sink it, 12 million compared to 100 million, very nice! Not to mention that 10 of them would probably sink a more serious ship, like a cruiser, missile cruiser...which costs at least 300-500 million, depends! Again beauty! It is a very cheap missile for its performance, For a billion you get 850 of them...that much can sink two carrier battle groups...which is off the hook efficiency and cost-wise!

Indonesia signs $500 mln contract to buy six Russian jet fighters

Indonesia has signed a $470 million contract with Russia to buy six Sukhoi Su-30MK2 jet fighters for the Indonesian Air Force, The Jakarta Post daily has reported.

The deal was confirmed by Russian defense-industry and diplomatic sources, but the Sukhoi aircraft maker and arms exporter Rosoboronexport declined to comment.

Deliveries will start after 2013.

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said his office had handed over the contract to Rosoboronexport on December 30.

“We have another contract still in progress,” Sjafrie said.

The Indonesian Air Force currently has 10 Sukhoi jetfighters - six Sukhoi SU-27SKMs and four Sukhoi SU-30MK2s. The Air Force plans to place one squadron of the jetfighters at Hasanuddin Airbase in Makassar.

12:49 17/04/2012 KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will soon sign a contract with Indonesia to deliver 37 infantry fighting vehicles worth more than $100 million, Russian state-controlled arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Tuesday.

Rosoboronexport deputy chief Viktor Komardin said the deal for BMP-3F vehicles was expected later this month.

To date, Russia has delivered 17 BMP-3Fs to Indonesia.

Indonesia Bought Russian Amphibious IFVs

Indonesia signed a $114-mln contract with Russian state-led Rosoboronexport for 37 second-generation amphibious infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3F. According to The Jakarta Globe, delivery of BMP vehicles to Indonesian Navy will finish in July 2013.

As was earlier reported, the BMP contract will be implemented under the $1-bln export credit given by Russia to Indonesia in 2007. Indonesia planned to spend Russian money on ten Mi-17 transport helicopters, five Mi-35M attack helicopters, twenty BMP-3F amphibious vehicles, and two Project 877 Paltus diesel submarines.

In total, Indonesia would purchase up to 60 Russian infantry fighting vehicles within the next 2 years. BMP-3F vehicles for Indonesia will be manufactured by JSC Kurganmashzavod. Exported amphibious vehicles are expected to operate at 3-grade storm.

According to Detik News citing Maj Gen Ediwan Prabowo, with mentioned 37 vehicles overall amount of Russian-made BMP-3F operated by Indonesian Navy would be 54.
