Russia-Azerbaijan relations and deals Empty Russia-Azerbaijan relations and deals

Post  AttilaA Mon Oct 29, 2012 6:30 pm

Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation based on principles of strategic partnership exists in various fields. One of them (and actually one of the most important) is in the sphere of defense and military technology. Defense is a very sensitive topic in the Caucasus due to territorial conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Nonetheless, Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in the sphere of defense is developing and now plays an important role in bilateral relations.

In 2011, according to data provided by the Center for World Arms Trade Analysis, Azerbaijan was the fifth-largest buyer of Russian arms. According to Russian services, Azerbaijan is ready to spend 1 billion dollars per year on buying Russian weapons.

for Russia it will be very difficult task. Azerbaijan is influenced by the USA and Turkey. And how to minimalise echoes of the conflict between Azerbaijan and the Russia's ally - Armenia? Only a very good business may make this visit fruitful

Azerbaijan buying BTR-82, according to Aliev.
Also mentioned Azeri military personnel training in Russian institutes.

This is all good and natural. Now its time to boost non-military ties as well.
I'd much rather Russia work on good relations with Azerbaijan than mooches like Belorus and quasi-Russophobes like Ukraine.

Problem with Azerbaijan is that it's an oil-oligarchy whose dictatorship is legitimized by nationalism. That's the way it is because of the situation in Nagorny-Karabakh and while it's so, conflict can erupt at any time.

I'm not saying Russia is not an oligarchy or that Armenia doesn't suffer from the same ultra-nationalism - but it's worrying because Azerbaijan is buying up weapons like mad and pumping a large amount of its oil profits into expanding the military. Conceivably it could even end up in a war with Iran sooner or later.

With that in mind though I'm all for building relations in all fields, at least it's not an anti-Russian country in any description. It manages to build its relations with many countries and defend its interests without any stupid complexes.

Obviously the situation is beneficial to both Turdkeystan and US, I only wish Russia is more powerful than it is now so they can just annex Azerbaijan and expel all Pro Turko and American terrorists who would resist to the Caspian sea!

Not quite as Azerbaijan had praised Russia recently regarding the negotiations.  The reasons are hushed up as stated in the article.  So the question is, consular generals from these two cities?  Strange really, but nothing to fret about just yet.

As well........Pravdareport? Odd name and odd that it is an english speaking site.

Now this is very important as it completely blocks US from meddling in Caspian states matters meaning Russia will have "free of US meddling" ability to forward its strategic interest of connecting Baltic Sea with Indian Ocean.
