"S. Korea, RI aerospace firms sign KFX cooperation deal. South Korea and Indonesia are set to elevate their strategic partnership by signing a strategic cooperation agreement on the joint development and production of KFX/IFX jet fighters. The agreement was signed on Friday by Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. president and CEO Ha Sung-yong and his counterpart PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) president director Budi Santoso.

Ryamizard said that aircraft technology was not a simple process but was something that needed support and commitment from all parties including the sharing of expertise, knowledge and technology. “The agreement is a strategic early step for bot defense industries, especially PT DI, to develop production and technology capabilities, especially jet fighters,” he said, expecting the jet fighter to become Indonesia’s leading product.

Ryamizard revealed that the agreement would lead to production, maintenance or sustenance, modification and upgrade of the jet fighter. Meanwhile, Cho said South Korea wanted to demonstrate that both countries were strategic partners. He said the there were more than 2,000 Korean companies operating in Indonesia and that defense cooperation was also significant. “We have bought from and sold to Indonesia a number of weapon systems,” he said “We want to upgrade the relations into a collaboration, such as KFX/IFX.” South Korea has sold a squadron of T/A-50 advanced jet trainers and three submarines to Indonesia while buying transport and maritime patrol CN-235 aircraft from Indonesia.



Three Minor Differences between KFX and IFX

He added that there would be minor differences between the KFX and IFX. “The IFX will have a greater range as required by the Indonesian Air Force ,” he said. “For air refueling, the IFX will use a probe system while the KFX will use a boom system. “The third difference will be the data link. South Korea will use the US-made Link 16 and probably develop their own while we will also develop our own.”Budi said Indonesia needed its own data link to allow communications with the Russian-made Sukhoi Su-27/30 Flankers heavy jet fighters."

On March 8, 2019, South Korean corporation Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) signed a formal agreement to acquire another leading South Korean shipbuilding corporation, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). This merger will create the world's largest shipbuilding company, which will account for about 20% world commercial shipbuilding market (including more than 50% of the gas carrier construction market).

New South Korean 30-mm anti-aircraft self-propelled unit

On June 5, 2019, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea announced the successful completion of the development and testing of a new 30-mm twin anti-aircraft self-propelled wheeled chassis system created by Hanwha for the DAPA. It is planned to purchase a new ZSU for both the South Korean army and its promotion for export.

The ceremony of rolling out the first South Korean 155-mm self-propelled howitzer K9 for Norway

On September 19, 2019, Hanwha Techwin in South Korea's Changwon hosted the ceremony of rolling out the first 155-mm self-propelled howitzer K9 (Norwegian designation VIDAR) and the first armored vehicle for transporting K10 ammunition manufactured under a contract with Norway.

On December 20, 2017, the Norwegian defense procurement agency Forsvarsmateriell, reporting to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, signed a contract worth 1.8 billion kroons ($ 216 million) with the South Korean company Hanwha Land Systems (the defense division of the Hanwha group) to supply the Norwegian army with 24 K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers 155/52 mm new production (with an option for another 24 systems). It was reported that the contract also included an unnamed number of [six] armored K10 ammunition transport vehicles on the same chassis, artillery ammunition, service support and training. The total cost of the program, taking into account the exercise of the option, may reach 3.2 billion kroons ($ 384 million).

The delivery of K9 self-propelled guns to Norway should begin in 2019, with the delivery of the main part of the equipment in 2020 and the completion of deliveries in 2021.

The usual DSI bullshit Pathetic. I haven't seen anyone say anything about the IRST though. I guess that's only unstealth what Russia does it. I know its not considered full stealth yet because of the external weapons bay (thanks to US restrictions because of the GE engines) but they still havn't made a big deal out of the IRST. Not yet anyway

I thought the rollout of this thing would generate some more interest than it has.

What do y'all think of it ? This jet is by far in the lead now compared to all the other dreams like the Tempest, FCAS, AMCA, KFX ext. I think it is competition for the su 57 in India. Maybe it's competition for the su 57 or su 35 going to Turkey too. But maybe not. The US can block it just like they blocked the F-35

There is nothing really new in it is there? The Su-57 has TVC and super maneuverability. The J-20 was the first stealth fighter outside the US to enter production and active service. This seems boring. Well it is a cost effective design which does not have expensive internal storage. Personally I think it seems like a decent design but I can understand the reluctance of people to jump around about it. It also uses a lot of foreign manufactured components. So if they try to sell it to someone the US doesn't want them to sell to, well you know what happens.

It is reported that the "highlight" of the MADEX-2021 exposition was the models of competing advance projects of the promising South Korean aircraft carrier CVX demonstrated by the shipbuilding corporations Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
