I will try not to sound like an apologist, but it is difficult to evaluate the Israeli contribution on a national basis.
The Jewish diaspora which was the nation of Israel for centuries actually did and does contribute significantly
to world science and engineering. Those Israelis from the ex-USSR were not just some random thieves, they
were key to the development of those technologies. Naturally this does not imply Russians made no contribution
    and were nothing but "bydlo".

The reason that you don't hear much about Jewish scientists in Europe during the 1500s, 1600s, etc. is because
it was not a good idea to advertise being Jewish. I think it was common conversion to Christianity during this
period in order to be able to socially advance. And Hollywood is a myth factory.

The above does not imply I support what has been done to Palestinians. Even if this land was Israeli two thousand
years ago, that does not give automatic rights to return. That is the nature of human reality. You have to fight
for your land and you lose it once you leave. It is tragic at the the time, but it is another tragedy trying to reclaim
it thousands of years later and kicking out the inhabitants.

not disparaging the intellect of the Israelis, or anyone else, but missile technology, no anti-missile technology is fcking hard. moreso when you are up against the bleeding edge of missiles like the Iskander-M. You need lots of time, money, and especially experience with this field. esp. experience, most especially experience; experience that is best gained by constantly testing it against respectable systems and fine-tuning it, the other side(missile) does it too; its a constant process. The Russians have both missile and anti-missile, the Israelis, maybe the anti-missile but thats it, no Iskander equivalent.

US Renews Funding for Israel's Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems - Carter

The United States remains committed to supplying Israel with continuing funding for the Iron Dome. David's Sling and Arrow anti-ballistic missile (ABM) systems, as well as the F-35 stealth fighter-bomber in 2016, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said in Tel Aviv.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Carter was visiting Israel the same day that the UN Security Council approved the P5+1 countries’ nuclear agreement with Iran that US Secretary of State John Kerry and the representatives of Russia, China, the United Kingdom and France, plus Germany reached with Tehran last week.

The Israeli government strongly opposed the agreement.

“We will keep providing advanced capabilities — next year, Israel will be our first and only friend in the region flying the F-35 stealth fighter,” Carter said in a joint press conference on Monday with Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, according to a US Department of Defense transcript.

Carter said that in his talks with Ya’alon, the two men discussed increased bilateral cooperation in the fields of cybersecurity activities and joint planning.

“We will maintain our vital support for Iron Dome, which last summer had a 90 percent success rate and saved countless Israeli lives.”

He was referring to the Israeli-developed and largely US-funded system against short-range ballistic missiles that was operated during Israel’s military incursion into Gaza in 2014.

“We will maintain our contributions to the David's Sling and Arrow systems that will shoot down longer-range rockets and ballistic missiles,” the defense secretary stated, referring to another largely US-funded Israeli ABM system.

“[T]his is an important set of advances,” he added.

Any extra info or its capabilities ?

    Gabriel Missile

Gabriel is a subsonic, sea-skimming, anti-ship missile developed by IAI for the Armed Forces of Israel. Flying at low altitude sea-skimming missiles try to evade radar detection to achieve a direct hit on target without being intercepted by ship's air defenses. Its guidance system relies on I-band radar homing head. Gabriel can be powered by either solid propellant rocket motor or liquid fuel turbojet. The liquid fuel variant has a maximum range of 60 km.
The Gabriel is a late Cold War era subsonic anti-ship missile of Israeli origin. It was developed to counter ships equipped with the Soviet P-15 Termit (SS-N-2 Styx) anti-ship missile. The Gabriel was the world's first operational sea skimming missile. It was used successfully during the 1973 Yom Kippur war.
The Gabriel missile uses a conventional layout with the guidance section and warhead in the nose and the solid fuel rocket engine at the rear. The Gabriel has four cruciform wings in the middle and four smaller wings near the nozzle. The missile is launched from large containers since the wings do not fold. Three containers are mounted on a turntable launcher. The Gabriel is fitted with a high explosive warhead that is able to sink small and medium size vessels.
The Grabiel-5 Advanced Naval Attack Missile is the latest member of Gabriel anti-ship missile family developed by IAI's MBT Missiles Division. Grabriel-5 is fitted with an advanced active radar seeker and a sophisticated flight control system. Combining both elements enabled Gabriel-5 to engage targets in intense clutter environments, near the shore, protected by close-in weapon systems and countermeasure defenses such as chaff, decoys and electronic countermeasures (ECM). In addition, the Gabriel-5 is provided with the ability to cope with rapidly evolving tactical situations.
All models of the Gabriel were adopted by the Israeli navy. Gabriel Mk 2 and III have also been widely exported to nations in South America, Africa and Asia. In many nations the Gabriel anti-ship missile remains in active use.

Israeli Missile Defense Intercepts Rocket Launched From Gaza - Spokesman

An Israeli Defense Forces spokesman said that Israel’s missile defense system intercepted a rocket suspected of being launched by Palestinian fighters from the Gaza Strip.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) – Israel’s missile defense system intercepted a rocket suspected of being launched by Palestinian fighters from the Gaza Strip, an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman said Sunday.

"A rocket launched from Gaza was intercepted by the Iron Dome. No injuries were reported," Peter Lerner tweeted after sirens were activated in the southern Ashkelon region.

The Iron Dome, an all-weather air defense system in use since 2011 to protect Israel from outside attacks, was used in the summer 2014 50-day military campaign against Hamas in Gaza.

Israel attributes all attacks coming from Gaza, including rocket launches, to the region’s de-facto governing power Hamas, and usually responds by launching its own airstrikes against Hamas targets.

Gaza residents joined anti-Israeli rallies that engulfed parts of the West Bank, Jerusalem and other Israeli cities after a spate of killings in response to stabbing attacks.

At least six Palestinians were killed along the Gaza Strip border fence on Saturday.

Israel Tests Arrow 3 Missile Defense System, Target Locked On From Space

Israel successfully carried out a test on locking on a missile target from space using its Arrow 3 missile defense system.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) – The Israeli Defense Ministry announced Thursday it has successfully carried out a test on locking on a missile target from space using its Arrow 3 missile defense system that was developed jointly with the United States.

"The anti-missile Hetz 3 [Arrow 3] complex completed all of its planned flight stages and destroyed its target. Target lock on occurred in space," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Arrow 3 is an anti ballistic defense system, jointly developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and US aviation giant Boeing. The system is incorporated into Israel's multi-level defense shield and designed to intercept missiles of varying ranges — from short-range missiles fired from neighboring territories, to long-range missiles launched from Iran.

The Arrow 3 interceptor missile is capable of operating in space, as its hypersonic speed allows it to overcome the atmosphere.

A previous Arrow 3 test, conducted by Israel in December 2014, failed. According to reports, the launch of the Arrow 3 interceptor missile had to be canceled as it had failed to lock on to its target missile.

Abit richer text on the matter:

"Israel successfully conducted a test of the "Arrow 3" ballistic missile interceptor on Thursday morning, said the Defense Ministry. The missile's white trail could be seen in the sky over the center of the country.
The announcement appeared aimed at reassuring the public, which had been jarred by previous unannounced test-launches from an air base south of Tel Aviv, worrying Israelis about possible missile battles with Iran, Syria, Hezbollah's Lebanese guerrillas and Hamas in Gaza. The test-launch of the anti-ballistic missile interceptor comes almost exactly a year after a previous test, which partially failed. In last December's test, a fault was found in the missile used as a target — and as a result, it was decided not to launch the "Arrow 3" at all. The trial was declared a "No Test."

The "Arrow 3" is designed to intercept ballistic missiles at long distances and outside the atmosphere. The U.S. Department of Defense's Missile Defense Agency and Boeing are partners in the project run by state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries. Each "Arrow 3" missile is estimated to cost about $2.2 million. The Defense Ministry said it will provide the results of the live trial soon after its engineers finish analyzing the data from the test. The Arrow is the long-range segment in Israel's three-tier missile shield. This also includes the successfully deployed "Iron Dome", which targets short-range rockets and mortar bombs used by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, and the mid-range "David's Sling", which is still under development. They can be deployed alongside U.S. counterpart systems like the Aegis. The United States and Israel have been jointly working on Arrow since 1988. Washington says helping Israel build up the capability to shoot down missiles staves off escalatory wars — or preemptive Israeli strikes — in the Middle East.
Israel also sees it as a means of weathering enemy missile salvoes while it brings its offensive capabilities to bear.

In order to avoid the problems that occurred last year, the ministry's Israel Missile Defense Organization decided that in this year's test an Air Force plane would fire the "Sparrow" target missile. When the missile's engine stopped burning, the stages of the target missile would separate and a target would be sent above the atmosphere. Shortly after that, the Sparrow missile would release another target. It was decided to add the second target this time in case something went wrong with the first one. The Arrow interceptor would then have to identify the target and home in on it — and then destroy it.

Because of the failure last year and the urgency to test the "Arrow 3" and make it operational, it was decided to add a third possibility in the present trial in case there was a problem with both targets. In any case the "Arrow 3" would be launched and allowed to track and home in on the target missile — but in case of a problem with both targets it would be aimed to "explode" the dummy target a predetermined distance away from the original target missile. The trial will be considered a success if the "Arrow 3" successfully hits the target, or in case of a problem with the target missile, if it succeeds in tracking the target and "striking" the predetermined distance from the missile."

David's Sling Missile Defense Ready for 2016 Deployment to Israel

The US military completed the final milestone before authorizing delivery of an operational missile defense against large caliber rockets to Israel, the US Department of Defense announced in a news release on Monday.

This picture taken on March 21, 2015 shows US troops from the 5th Battalion of the 7th Air Defense Regiment emplace a launching station of the Patriot air and missile defence system at a test range in Sochaczew, Poland

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Defense Department explained that the Stunner interceptor was successfully launched, performed all flight phases, and engaged the target as planned.

"This test series, designated David's Sling Test-4 (DST-4), was the fourth series of tests of the David's Sling Weapon System and the final milestone before declaring delivery of an operational system to the Israeli Air Force in 2016," the release said.

"Preliminary analysis indicates that test objectives were successfully achieved," it added.

The weapon is a central part of Israel's multi-layer missile defense system, which also includes the operational Iron Dome and Arrow-2 and the Arrow-3, now under development.

The US Missile Defense Agency and the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) jointly conducted the latest tests at a range in southern Israel, according to the release.

David's Sling completes last pre-delivery tests

The Israel Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced on 21 December that David's Sling had successfully completed a series of trials in recent days, clearing the way for the air defence system to become operational in 2016.

"The system's capabilities were tested in a number of scenarios that simulate the threats it was designed to deal with," the MoD said in a statement.

"Target missiles were fired, which were detected by a multimission radar. The radar transmitted the co-ordinates to a fire control centre that calculated defence counter plans. David's Sling interceptors were successfully fired, and carried out all of the flight stages, destroying the targets as planned," it stated.

Shlomo S (full name withheld), who leads development of David's Sling at prime contractor Rafael, said the targets represented ballistic missiles. "The emphasis is on engaging guided, manoeuvring threats carrying warheads that weigh dozens of kilograms," he said.

The MoD said the Israeli Air Force's Air Defense Command has been training throughout 2015 to operate David's Sling and will take delivery of the system in the first quarter of 2016.

Yair Ramati, the head of the Homa Administration at the MoD's Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure, said the system will initially be operated by two mobile launch centres.

The mass production of the system's Stunner interceptor missiles has already begun and the production of additional radars and fire control stations will begin next year, defence officials said.

The US Missile Defense Agency and Raytheon were also involved in the tests. Elbit subsidiaries Eltra and Elisra respectively make the system's multimission radars and Golden Almond fire control system.

Israel Defense Ministry Starts Supplying New SAM Missile System to Army

Israel's Defense Ministry has begun supplying the David's Sling surface-to-air missile system, jointly developed by Israel and the United States, to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the ministry said Tuesday.

The newspaper indicated storing classified documents on the personal computer as a possible reason for Ramati's dismissal.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) — David's Sling has been designed by Israel's state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems corporation and the US defense contractor Raytheon.

"After tests have successfully been completed in December… the Defense Ministry, jointly with the US Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency, has begun to supply the Israeli Air Force with the main components of the system," the ministry said in a press statement.

The system is to be used in conjunction with the Iron Dome air defense system designed to intercept short-range rockets, as well as the US-made Patriot surface-to-air missile system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

It is intended to intercept Hamas-developed Palestinian Qassam rockets and Hezbollah's Katyusha rockets.

Rafael unveils "Drone Dome" anti-UAV system

It defends critical sites against hostile threats, detecting, tracking and neutralising UAVs classified as malicious.

According to Rafael, the Drone Dome is aimed at countering UAVs that could perform aerial attacks or carry out surveillance they are not authorised to.

The all-weather Drone Dome has 360° circular coverage, and uses an electro-optical/infrared sensor and radar to detect a threat. The data is then combined and correlated and alerts the operator of the hostile UAV.

The system initiates either an automatic interference operation – as per pre-defined rules – or it is carried out manually by the operator. The threat is neutralised by activation of directional GNSS and a radiofrequency inhibitor/jammer.

According to Rafael, Drone Dome has a quick response time and causes minimal collateral interruptions to the surrounding urban environment.

Meanwhile, the fast proliferation of UAV jammers is pushing Israeli manufacturers to give systems better jamming capabilities.

Portable jammers are offered by many companies, including Israel Aerospace Industries and Rafael.

The systems are designed to detect all types of UAV, including micro and mini systems, jamming their control links.

In recent months, Israeli UAV manufacturers have been approached by customers that want anti-jamming capabilities on UAVs.

The demand is for two main types of system: one that can protect UAVs in a given area, and another which is carried by every UAV so it can be used for long-endurance missions.

In the recent Armenian–Azerbaijani border conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, there are indications UAV jammers were used by Armenia. Sources add, Azerbaijani forces may have jammers and both sides probably use Russian-made systems.

Russia has developed advanced jammers that, with adaptations, can be used against UAVs.

Israeli UAVs such as the BlueBird ThunderB and IAI Harop loitering munition have reportedly been used during the conflict, with one of the former shot down in early April.
